Insurers consider probability of a certain vehicle to be stolen, vandalized, or involved in an accident. Insurers use different systems to determine their vehicle symbol. They sometimes use ISO symbol or a proprietary symbol.

Additionally, insurers look at industry wide statistics and their own claim experience to determine car insurance rates.

Sports Utility Vehicles or SUV are not in the top list of most stolen cars. The basic SUV insurance factor that is being looked at is the cost and size of the car. A car that costs more to repair or can inflict more damage in an accident will be a higher risk to insurers compared to smaller, cheaper cars.

Generally, SUV car insurance is 15% more than the average vehicle due to the greater cost of repairs. Also not most people know that SUVs don’t have to meet the federal government’s standards set for bumpers on vehicles, relative to parking lots and commuter traffic. So, SUV’s are not safe vehicles.

So SUV will cost more to insure.
